iPhone, iPod updates don't include high-speed access

  • Apple introduced new models of its iPhone and iPod touch last week with bigger storage capacities - but nothing more.
The iPhone's biggest storage goes from 8 gigabytes to 16, for $499, and the iPod touch (the iPhone without the phone) from 16 gigabytes to 32 for the same price. With that kind of storage, you could fill several whole seasons of a one-hour drama on iPod touch.
But Mac fans are especially disappointed with the announcement of the new iPhone model because it didn't have the one thing users have been clamoring for the most - high speed Internet 3G connectivity.
As of now, the iPhone connects through AT&T's slower EDGE network when it's not connected to WiFi. Users are hoping for an iPhone that will connect to AT&T's 3G network. But a good sign is that AT&T announced it's expanding its 3G network to 80 more cities by the end of 2008.
